The latest publication from the Lamb Marine Lab documented a significant discovery of the Wellington’s solitary coral, Rhizopsammia wellingtoni. This coral has not been documented for almost two decades, and was recently found during field surveys in the Galápagos archipelago. With this discovery, the coral has now been designated as a critically endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
